Woodstock Honda Thor racer Craig Anderson won the opening round of the 2008 Stroke Supercross Summer Nationals in Tooradin (VIC) in front of a sell-out crowd.
The highly-anticipated event was the first national Supercross racing for the year and crowds were out in force to see the country?s top Supercross riders in action; and Anderson did not disappoint as he took four wins from four races.
Anderson?s Pro Open team mate, Daniel McCoy got off to a shaky start with crashes in the first two races marring his overall result, however McCoy bounced back in the final two races.
Closing in on Anderson in the penultimate Pro Open clash, McCoy claimed second place and went on to take the holeshot and lead much of the night?s last race before again finishing second behind Anderson, scoring third overall for the event.
In the fiercely contested Pro Lites class, Kade Mosig went head-to-head with main rivals Matt Moss and Ryan Marmont, and finished in second place ahead of the reigning Australian Pro Lites Supercross Champion, Marmont.
Having enjoyed the intense competition, Mosig?s second race was touched with disappointment and frustration as a result of a yellow caution flag shown only to Mosig while he was leading, which allowed Moss to jump past into the lead and take the race win.
Mosig is now more resolved to take victory in round two of the Supercross Summer Nationals in Dubbo.
Also saddled up on a Honda CRF250R in the Pro Lites class, Dean Ferris raced his first ever Supercross event, and scored an impressive fifth place on debut.
The Woodstock Honda Thor Racing team now looks forward to round two of the Stroke Supercross Summer Nationals at Dubbo Speedway in Dubbo (NSW) on Saturday 1 March.
CRAIG ANDERSON
"This was a good start to the season. After being sick all week, I wasn?t really expecting to do all that well tonight.
"Everything came together; my starts were pretty well on par, the new Honda was really good, I was pretty happy with the way I rode and everything just went to plan.
"As we get rolling into the season and I get fitter and faster it should be a good year for the Woodstock Honda team."
DANIEL McCOY
"I had a rough start to the night with crashes in the first two races, but I got off to a better start in the third race and slowly closed in on Ando (Craig Anderson) and was right on him at the end of the race.
"In the last race, I got the holeshot and led for a few laps before Ando I traded places a few times and I finished up coming home in second."
"I?m looking forward to going to Dubbo in two weeks? Ando has set down a benchmark for me to chase and I really want to beat him in the next round."
KADE MOSIG
"I?m not overly happy with the outcome tonight, but I?m pleased with how the bike performed and the whole Honda team worked so well together.
"I really wanted to win this event but I there was a bit of a mishap with the yellow flag incident in the second moto which caused us a bit of trouble? I guess that?s racing and it will only make us stronger for the next round and hopefully we can go out and win there."
DEAN FERRIS
"I had a really good first moto which gave me a lot of confidence to go on with throughout the night.
"I just wanted to put in some solid laps, keep it on two wheels, finish strongly and get some experience from my first Supercross and that?s what I did.
"The result is pretty much what I expected for my first Supercross, I didn?t want to go out and do anything silly so early in the season.
"I found I need to work on getting through the first turn a bit better? I was getting great starts and my CRF250 was awesome."
YARRIVE KONSKY ? TEAM PRINCIPAL
"This is fantastic; the team couldn?t have asked for a better start to the season.
"Everyone has put in a lot of effort to preparing our new 2008-model Hondas for the racing season and we have a lot more testing and development to come, so this is definitely a promising sign of what?s to come this season.
"With round two of the Supercross Summer Nationals coming up in two weeks, we have set our sights on dominating both the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes in Dubbo."
