San Manuel Yamaha rider Chad Reed looks set to continue his charge into the top echelon of AMA Supercross competition, poised to move into equal third on the all-time podiums list.
Reed’s second placing in Houston saw him consolidate a strong lead in the Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, coming away with a 32 point buffer.
It was one of only two second places in the season thus far; on every other occasion he has greeted the chequered flag in first place.
If he can maintain this run at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome on the weekend, he will join Mike LaRocco on 81 podium finishes.
The Yamaha rider is determined to continue pushing as the season approaches the half-way mark, and feels the YZ450F is improving with each race.
“Day in, day out, in practice or racing the bike is flawless. I’ll continue to push and really want to take back a win in Atlanta, it’s important that we go out there and keep scoring maximum points,” said Reed.
“As Houston showed, getting a good start is really important, and getting swamped back in the pack makes the job that much harder.”
“I’m confident that we can give Atlanta a good shot and keep increasing the points lead.”
The Australian rider has clocked up the most laps led in 2008, heading the field for 80 of the 135 laps ridden in the main event races to date.
