Current and dual World Women’s Motocross Champion, Katherine Prumm, 19, is jetting her way into Brisbane to contest the opening round of the Motul/ Australian Women’s National Championship on March 9 at Tivoli Raceway, 25 minutes west of Brisbane.
New Zealand based Prumm, is in full training mode for the 2008 season and eager to retain her world champion status this year and plans on using the Australian Championship as a warm up before heading further abroad to Europe.
" I have never been to this track and I look forward to racing on the weekend. The Aussie girls are a great bunch and they always give me plenty to think about with their spirited racing," Prumm offers from New Zealand.
Prumm has also just signed a world wide contract to race Yamaha motorcycles for this season and has spent the past few months preparing for the world championship and getting accustomed to the new Yamaha machinery.
"The change is exciting and Yamaha has really embraced me. I liked the YZ250F the first time I jumped on it and it turns really well. We are just getting everything set up now to my own personal tastes and I feel that I go only go faster and harder from here."
Prumm's visit is whirlwind, even by her standards, as she is in the country for 48 hours before jetting back to New Zealand for final preparations on her world championship assault. Her 2008 calendar is busier than ever and Prumm will be based in Holland for the majority of the season, where she will race for the Factory Van Beers Yamaha outfit, while contesting the five round FIM Women’s World Championship.
Other events on her schedule are the New Zealand National Championships, two rounds of the Australian Women’s Championships and possibly a return to the USA to contest some of their major races.
"I haven’t finalised anything in the US at this stage as my focus is on getting my third World Championship. There is the end of season Women’s World Cup held in Texas and I would like to go back there and defend my title from 2007. I can’t wait for the season to get under way," she says excitedly.
Katherine will be at Pro Yamaha, Moss Street, Slacks Creek, with the rest of the Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team on Saturday March 8 between 9am and midday, for an in-store visit and poster signings.
The Motul / Development Motocross Series incorporates the Australian Women’s Motocross Championship as well as a host of Junior and Under19 racing divisions. Tivoli Raceway is located just of the Mt Crosby exit on the Warrego Highway with racing starting at 9am. Spectator entry is free.
